Tsavo National Park Best lodges in Kenya

Tsavo National Park is one of the oldest and largest parks in Kenya occupying approximately 4% of Kenya’s land located in Taita Taveta County. The park was further divided into two due to the road and rail built in between the park connecting Mombasa to the rest of Kenya.

We have Tsavo East National Park which is the larger park and is generally a flat, dry plain with the Galana River flowing through it as the main source of water. It consists of the Yatta Plateau and the Lugard Falls.

Tsavo West National Park, on the other hand, is rocky and wetter than Tsavo East with a number of swamps including Mzima Springs and Lake Jipe.

The Tsavo is quite popular for the large number of diverse wildlife including The Big 5 consisting of The lion, red-dusted elephant, cape buffalo, black rhino and leopards. There are also a number of bird species including the black kite, crowned crane, lovebird and the sacred ibis.

Tsavo West has a rhino sanctuary and also has the option of rock climbing along the Tsavo river with the help of a guide.

What a wealth of great information. I have not visited anywhere in the African continent although I have traveled extensively many other places. This is a game reserve I assume so the old “African Safaris” and game hunting is/should be off limits. Is there big game hunting anywhere in Kenya still? Not that I am interested, I am not. Killing of those beautiful animals does not go well with me. But, those resorts look amazing. Have you stayed in any of them? If so, will you be reviewing any of them?

    • Anita says:

Hi Jacqueline, glad you found this information helpful. You should plan on visiting Africa for a safari, it is an experience of a lifetime. Game hunting is illegal in Kenya and all game reserve, national parks and conservancy are highly protected to avoid game hunting. Though poaching is still experienced, a lot has been put in place to curb this menace.

I plan on visiting most of the highlighted lodges for a personal review.

What an awesome article Anita! I must say that I like to travel and I was on some very beautiful places but I never had a chance to visit Kenya or Africa. From what I see on the pictures it is very nice and relaxing place. I would like to visit it because it also has amazing animals.

    • Anita says:

Yes, Kenya has amazing wildlife. Your mind will be challenged especially if you visit The Tsavo. You don’t even need to go looking for the animals, right at your lodge or tented camp of choice you get to view the animals. With a good camera, you will have memories to even show your grandchildren. Plan that safari, you will not regret it.

So I took a look around your site, and now I see this article about the Tsavo National Park and the Tsavo East National Park.  Yes!  Right where my husband and I want to go!!

That Voi Wildlife Lodge really looks amazing.  It has a wellness center, and it also seems to have a place for the kids.  We have two children who will be accompanying us, so that’s an important feature, too.

Thanks for the great site.  I’ve bookmarked it for future articles, I don’t want to miss out on your great info.

    • Anita says:

Thank you Babs for taking you time to visit my site.

Tsavo National Park is a great place for a safari, two parks in one: Tsavo East National Park and Tsavo West National Park, each with unique features and rich in wildlife.

Your family will really have a good time here. If travelling with kids, it is important to look out for a kid friendly lodge and Voi Wildlife Lodge is kid friendly plus it is near a wildlife waterhole hence you will get to view wildlife right from the hotel.

Hope to hear your experience after you visit.

The resorts you have shown on your post are amazing, I would love to visit either Voi wildlife lodge and most  definitely I want to visit the Sarova salt lake lodge as my son would love it here.

Have you any idea of prices for a holiday?

  6. Laura Adney says:

I have always wanted to go on a safari. The wildlife, the outdoor activities, and just being disconnected yet more in tuned with yourself on a grittier level

    • Anita says:

      Hello Laura,
I hope that one day you get to go on a safari. It is just a relaxing to be away from the hustle of life and watch wildlife in their natural habitat. You should consider visiting the Tsavo National Park in Kenya and enjoy huge herds of elephants go about their daily lives which include eating and more eating with short periods of bathing in the mud or splashing the red soil on themselves to act as a sunscreen.
